Slice of no cook banana cream pie with a pile of whipped cream on top on a yellow plate.

This easy banana cream pie recipe is perfect for a last minute dessert. It is such a wonderful way to serve a homemade banana cream pie with almost no effort.

This great recipe requires no cooking and just a few simple ingredients. It is perfect for making during the warmer months, but is delicious all year long.

Life is always hectic this time of year. There are festivals, dance recitals, end of school year activities and more.

But just because life is busy doesn't mean you can't eat deliciously. It just means you have to have a few tricks up your sleeves!

Putting whipped cream into a mixing bowl with pudding mixture.

This no-cook banana cream pie is perfect for a carry-in. It's also a great cool and creamy summer treat.

With the help of a premade pie crust and some instant pudding, you can have it ready to go in about 10 minutes. The hardest part is whipping the cream, and I know you can handle that!

You can eat your pie right away if you'd like, but I like letting it sit in the refrigerator for a bit first.  It gives the banana a chance to give some flavor to the pie and helps it firm up a bit.

For this pie you want to use nice yellow fresh bananas. The green ones are a little to firm and starchy.

A few brown spots on the peel are ok, but you really don't want to use overripe brown bananas. Save those for banana bread, banana cupcakes or nice cream!

Easy Adaptations and Substitutions

You can make your own graham cracker crust rather than using a premade crust if you want. Combine 1 1/2 cups of graham cracker crumbs, 1/3 cup of granulated white sugar, and 6 Tablespoons of melted butter.

If you are a big banana pudding fan, you can use vanilla wafers to make a crust rather than graham crackers. The vanilla wafer crust recipe is the same, just swap in crushed vanilla wafers. If you like bolder flavors, ginger snaps would be a fun option as well.

layering banana slices on top of pudding mixture in graham cracker crust.

As easy as this recipe is, the most time consuming part is making the whipped cream. You can shave a couple of minutes off the prep time by using cool whip instead if you prefer.

For a stronger banana flavor, try using instant banana pudding mix instead of vanilla. It would be interesting to try a chocolate version as well.

These small changes are easy to make and can help you to customize your pie to your tastes. No matter what, it is going to be a delicious banana pudding pie!

Prep Time 10 minutes

Total Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

Whipped Cream

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream, super cold
  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pie

  • 1 cup cold milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3.4 ounce box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 9 inch graham cracker crust
  • 2 medium bananas, sliced

Instructions

  1. Pour heavy whipping cream, sugar and vanilla into a medium bowl and beat on high speed until medium to stiff peaks form. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk milk, vanilla and pudding mix until smooth and thick. Fold in 3 cups of your whipping cream.
  3. Spoon half of pie filling mixture into pie crust. Layer with banana slices then another layer of the pudding mixture. Top with second pudding layer remaining whipped cream and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  4. If desired, garnish with fresh banana slices right before serving.
  5. Refrigerate any leftover pie.

Notes

Bananas oxidize when exposed to the air. To keep them from turning mushy and brown, you can either wait until you are ready to serve to garnish the top of the pie with bananas. If you want to prep it ahead of time, lightly spray the sliced banana with lemon juice or lime juice. It works in a similar way as it does with apple slices.
